Fact Check: Old video of Ukrainian drone attack on Russian Tuapse oil refinery falsely shared as Hezbollah attack Israel

Recently, a video has been circulating, claiming that Hezbollah attacked an Israeli oil refinery amidst the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. However, this video is actually old footage from Russia, related to a Ukrainian drone attack on the Tuapse oil refinery in July 2024. It has no connection to the current situation in the Middle East.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) IRNA News Agency (@IrnaEnglish ) wrote. “Hezbollah drones reached the oil refineries in the north of occupied Palestine”. The post has received nearly 50k views and a significant number of engagements. Later, the News Agency deleted the post.

The truth about the video of Ukrainian drone attack, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not related to the Hezbollah and Israel conflict but an old incident from Russia. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to several media reports containing the same visuals. According to media reports (1, 2), Russia’s Tuapse oil refinery, its biggest on the Black Sea, was damaged in a major Ukrainian drone attack in July 2024. 

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video of the drone attack on the refinery was not related to the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. But an old video of a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian Tuapse oil refinery in July 2024.

Social media users, influencers and Self-proclaimed media outlets are circulating old videos from the Russia-Ukraine war. And claiming to be from the Israel-Lebanon conflict to set their narrative against Israel.
