Fact Check: Residents attack Air Force Base in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, propagandists circulate misleading targeting India

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that India was behind the recent attack by locals on the Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar. However, these allegations are entirely baseless. According to reports and official sources, the incident involved a clash between the residents of Samitipara and the military over the expansion of the air base and airport in Cox’s Bazar.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter), propagandist account @TacticalTribun wrote, “Bangladeshi sources say, India was behind the attack on Bangladeshi Air Base in Cox Bazar.”

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the claims. Their posts can be seen here: @SanamSana91487, @mudassir_nafi, @TacticalTribun.

The truth behind the claims about cox’s bazar air force base attack, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the claims. We found that these claims about India’s involvement were false and self-invented.

To verify the claims made by propagandists, we conducted extensive keyword searches and a thorough investigation. However, we found no credible or verified sources supporting these claims. During research, we found multiple reports regarding the attack on the Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. According to reports (1, 2, 3) and official sources, tensions had been escalating between the residents of Samitipara and the military over the expansion of the air base and airport in Cox’s Bazar.

Locals had been protesting against the government’s plan to evict some residents and relocate them. On Monday, a group of over a dozen people attempted to meet the district administrator to voice their concerns but were stopped at a military checkpoint because one of them was not wearing a helmet. This issue turned into a violent confrontation. One person was killed by the Bangladeshi forces, and several others were injured.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that no credible sources are suggesting that India was behind the attack.
