Fact Check: Video of a mob torturing suspected robbers in Dhaka’s Uttara falsely shared with communal claims

A video circulating online depicts an act of mob violence, showing an individual being tortured and hung upside down. It is being falsely claimed that the footage portrays a religious hate crime targeting a Hindu person in Bangladesh. In reality, reports confirm that the incident occurred in Dhaka, where two suspected robbers, Md Nazim and Md Bakul, were assaulted and hung upside down from a footover bridge in Uttara. This event is unrelated to any religiously motivated violence.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @SonOfBharat7 wrote, This is Hindu Muslim brotherhood. First, the Hindu was beaten up. Then he was stripped naked. He was hung naked upside down on the bridge. Then he was beaten with sticks. Until the Hindu carrying the fodder died. Hindus…if you don’t take care of yourself, this is happening in Bangladesh… Next will be your turn. (Translated from Hindi)
