Fact Check: Video of an individual being assaulted in Myanmar falsely shared as Manipur violence 

A graphic and disturbing video depicting a man brutally assaulting another individual tied to a pole has been widely circulated on social media. The video has been shared with claims linking it to the ongoing violence in Manipur, India. However, an analysis of the initial posts reveals that the footage originates from Myanmar and is unrelated to the situation in Manipur or any recent events in India.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @Eongyoo12345 wrote, “Kangleipak 650sqkm ( a place where #arambaiTenggol have power more than state forces”.

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @pbkhuptong, @KANGLEIPOOR.

The truth about the video of Manipur violence, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the sensitive video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from Manipur, India but from a different country.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to initial posts (1, 2) containing the same video. Based on initial posts, it has been revealed that the video originates from Myanmar and has no connection to the situation in Manipur or any recent events in India. Additionally, we performed a thorough investigation but couldn’t find any such incident from Manipur.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not from India but a different country.
