Fact Check: Video of man attacking police in Assam’s Dhing falsely linked to Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura

A video depicting an individual attacking a policeman has circulated widely on social media. Many users, influencers, and propagandists have shared the video with the claim that it shows the UP Police being attacked while trying to check the IDs of Rohingya Muslims in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. However, it has been discovered that the viral video is not from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, but rather from an incident where a man attacking police in Assam.

Several users, influencers, and propagandists, who have falsely attributed the incident to Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Sharing the video, an account @Arunkr750 on X (Formerly Twitter) wrote. Illegal intruders are showing bullying behaviour towards the police team that came to check the IDs of Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims who have been living illegally in Mathura, UP for a few days.

Propaganda account @SaffronSunanda has also shared the video and captioned Rohingyas or Rowdies? UP Police went to check IDs of Rohingya Muslims living in Mathura, UP. Instead of cooperating, these illegal intruders started fighting with the Police. Deport all the Rohingyas from India.

Another propaganda account @jpsin1 on X has also posted the video and wrote, Rohingya or miscreants? UP police reached Mathura in UP to check the IDs of Rohingya Muslims. Instead of cooperating, these illegal intruders started fighting with the police. Throw all Rohingyas out of India.

Truth about the viral video of a man attacking police in Assam, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video came to our knowledge, we conducted research and found that this incident is from Assam’s Dhing.

During research, we found a report regarding the video on India Today NE. As per the report, this video is from Assam’s Dhing, located in Nagaon district.

The same video was posted by Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on 28 June 2024.

Moreover, Mathura police have issued a statement and clarified that the incident is not from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video is not from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh but an incident from Assam.
