Truth about the viral claims of Switzerland banned the Hijab, Fact Check
As soon as posts containing the claims came to our notice, we conducted research and found no such report came to light in recent times.
During research we found a report on The Associated Press (AP), published in September 2023. As per the report, in September 2023, the lower house of Switzerland’s parliament approved a ban on face coverings, such as the burqas worn by some Muslim women. The law prohibits covering the nose, mouth, eyes in public spaces & private buildings accessible to the public. There is no mention of Hijab ban and national referendum on the recognition of Islam in Switzerland.
The Hijab typically covers the hair, ears, and neck, while leaving the face visible. The burqa covers the entire body from head to toe, including the face. As per the report, burqa was banned by the Switzerland’s parliament in 2023.
