Fact Check: Video of massive explosion from Russia falsely shared as Israel-Lebanon conflict

A video depicting a massive explosion has been circulated with claims that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is currently destroying major weapons depots in Southern Lebanon. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video is not from Lebanon, but from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @EYakoby wrote. โ€œBreaking: The IDF is currently destroying major weapons depots in Southern Lebanon. To anyone who calls this a “war crime,” UN Resolution 1701 bars any weapons south of the Litani River, which they clearly have not adhered to.โ€ Later, he deleted the post.

Several other users and influencers have also shared the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @MrNationalistJJ, @krishnakamal077, @Ofer_binshtok

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was unrelated to the Israel-Lebanon conflict.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to a YouTube video containing the same visuals. The videoโ€™s description reads, โ€œdrones attacked an ammunition depot in the village of Kamenny in the Tikhoretsky district of the Krasnodar regionโ€. Taking a cue from this, subsequently, we performed a relevant keyword search and found media reports regarding the explosion.

According to the media reports, Ukraineโ€™s defense forces targeted Russian ammunition depots in Krasnodar territory and the Tver region. overnight, September 20-21, in the village of Kamyane, Tykhoretskyi district, Krasnodar territory of the Russian Federation, in a drone attack, an ammunition depot was hit, and a fire and detonation occurred at the facility.

We also discovered a statement from “General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. In the statement they explained the situation and said. โ€œDefense forces of Ukraine hit two military arsenals of the armed forces of the Russian Federationโ€.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video of the massive explosion was not from the Israel-Lebanon conflict but from Russia.
