Fact Check: Videos of clash between two groups of Muslim community circulated as religious hate crimes against Hindus in Bangladesh

Visuals depicting individuals from the Muslim community engaging in acts of vandalism and violent activities have been widely shared on social media, accompanied by claims that they show extremists targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. However, these claims are misleading and incorrect. According to verified reports, the visuals are not related to any violence targeting the Hindu community. Instead, they depict an incident involving clashes between two groups within the Muslim community in Sherpur, Bangladesh. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @MeghUpdates wrote, Radical mob attacked a village in Murshidpur in Sherpur District, Bangladesh. Hindu homes, crops destroyed. Livestock looted. One person has been killed. Even Sufi shrine of unorthodox islamic sect looted and vandalised.

Another propaganda account @ajaychauhan41 also shared the video and wrote, Hindus are being openly massacred in Bangladesh. A village in Murshidpur in the Sherpur district of Bangladesh was attacked by a fanatic mob. Hindu houses and crops were destroyed. Livestock was looted. Many Hindus are feared dead. Even a Sufi temple of an unorthodox Islamic sect was looted and vandalized.

As soon as the posts containing the visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found that it was not related to religious hate crimes against Hindus.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to reports (1, 2), The visuals are from the vandalism and looting of Murshidpur Darbar Sharif in Sherpur, Bangladesh on Tuesday.

13 people from both sides were injured and one person was killed during the clash. The incident involved people from two groups of the Muslim community.

However, there are multiple reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. But this particular video is unrelated to religious hate crimes against Hindus.
