Fact Check: Video of injured Awami League woman falsely linked to crimes against Hindus in Bangladesh

A video showing a severely injured woman in police custody has been shared online with false claims that she is a Hindu and a victim of religious extremism in Bangladesh. However, D-Intent Data has found that the woman is an Awami League worker and does not belong to the Hindu community. As per initial and local sources, the woman’s name is Kohinoor. Verified sources confirm that her injuries are not linked to religious persecution but are related to a political conflict. Additionally, there is no credible evidence to support claims that she was subjected to sexual violence.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @ajaychauhan41 wrote. “Atrocities against Bangladeshi Hindus continue. What kind of cruelty is this against a woman!”

The truth about the viral video from Bangladesh, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found that the woman was not a Hindu but an Awami League Worker named Kohinoor.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to several initial posts from Bangladesh. According to the local posts (1, 2), the woman is a member of Bangladesh Farmers League (Bangladesh Krishak League), the farmers wing of Awami League. According to the local sources, the woman’s name is Kohinoor Begum. She is a member of the Bangladesh Farmers League National Committee, who was injured & arrested in front of the Bangabandhu Avenue Central Party Office.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the woman was not a Hindu, but Muslim and a member of the Bangladesh Farmers League National Committee.
