Fact Check

#FACTCHECK-CLAIM”Not For Sale UK Aid Available For Sale In *General* Store In Sindh ???”

ANALYSIS: TRUE

Fact: The UK govt has sent a relief fund to Pakistan in response to the recent flood. We learn from a social media leaked image that Pakistan is selling white flour in local markets rather than using it in relief. Later, Pakistani media spread a false narrative that this image is from India of 2014.
But we can see Pakistani brand Ghee at that shop, therefore we know it’s from Pakistan. Later, Pakistan attempted to push a narrative that it was actually packing from local stores to send those as relief. While this is difficult to verify, it also appears misleading. Because relief materials are not typically packed inside local stores rather than relief camps.

Intent: After being caught selling UK relief items at a local shop, the Pakistani government attempted to spread a number of false narratives.
