A few days ago, a terrorist outfit called TRF (The Resistance Front) in Kashmir circulated fake news on social media claiming that they carried out a grenade attack on security forces at Duderhama, Ganderbal in Kashmir valley. However, Ganderbal police have clarified that the news being circulated is fake and baseless and no such incident happened.
Ganderbal police came on Twitter with their official handle and tweeted, “A rumour is being circulated by a banned terrorist outfit on social media claiming a grenade attack on security forces camp at Duderhama, Ganderbal. No such incident happened in Ganderbal. Police and security forces are alert and vigilant. The public is requested not to believe, forward or share any such rumours.”
The Resistance Front (TRF) is an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) proscribed terror outfit. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), TRF came into existence in 2019 after the abrogation of Article 370 as a proxy outfit of LeT. It has been recruiting youth, especially from Jammu and Kashmir through social media to widen their terrorist activities.
There have been several instances of TRF’s terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. TRF began as an online entity in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 and the revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The organization started taking responsibility for attacks in 2020. For example, in October 2020, three BJP workers were shot dead by militants in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Minutes after the incident, The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack.
