Uttar Pradesh — Video Of Crowd Confronting Leopard in Sitapur, Circulating as Ballia: Fact-Check

A few days ago, a video showing a crowd confronting a leopard in Sitapur but started circulating on social media as Ballia. The video was shared by many users such as @AhteshamFIN, @priyarajputlive, @ImranTG1 and @ManojSh28986262, they claimed that it was from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. However, this claim is false. The video is actually from Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the news of ‘Dainik Bhaskar‘ [archive], the incident in the viral video is of August 18, when Shivpal, a resident of Sitapur, was attacked by a leopard. At that time, some people in the village saved the life of the leopard by driving it away. Later Shivpal was admitted to the hospital.

The leopard which has been roaming in Sitapur for the last 40 days has so far killed three people. Due to fear of leopards, children have even stopped going to school. The report quoted Regional Forest Officer Ahmed Kamal Siddiqui as saying that after the attacks in Reusa and Biswan area, he has increased surveillance in both villages. Besides, cages have also been ordered from Lakhimpur and Pilibhit to catch the leopard.
