On August 6, 2023, at least 30 people were killed and several others injured after multiple bogies of the Hazara Express derailed (Archived ) near Nawabshah in Sindh province, Pakistan. Misinformation propaganda accounts have been circulating videos of the tragic Odisha Train Collision as a train derailment in Pakistan. The Tragic Odisha Train Collision occurred on 2 June 2023 around 7:00 PM local time in which at least 294 people lost their lives and more than 1100 were injured. The propaganda accounts falsely connected the visuals of the Odisha Train Collision to the recent train derailment in Pakistan.

Nowadays we are witnessing several unfortunate and tragic events around the world. In such a time opportunists are taking advantage of the events and trying to create panic among people around the world. A user shared a video that shows an accident site of the train carriages overturned & dispersed around the railway track while a huge crowd is also present there around the damaged coaches and making efforts to save the victims. The video has been shared and claimed to be from the recent “Hazara Express” train derailment in Pakistan’s Sindh province. Sharing the video the user said “28 people were killed and 50 injured when a passenger train derailed near the city of Nawabshah, Pakistan” The post can be accessed here (Archived).
Research, Analysis and Fact
As soon as we saw the video, we did a reverse image search and found several reports featuring the visuals, according to reports (Archived ) the video is from the tragic Odisha Train Collision that occurred in June 2023 in the Balasore district. When we see the visuals seen in the video do not match the original visuals of the Hazara Express derailment.Hence the video has nothing to do with the recent train derailment in Pakistan as it is from the Indian state of Odisha.
