Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand — Adani Group Has Involvement In Uttarkashi Tunnel Construction? Fact-Check

Propagandists are spreading rumours that the company in charge of tunnel construction in Uttarakhand is Navayuga Engineering Construction Limited (NECL), which is owned by the Adani Group.

Verified accounts on twitter, including Subramanian Swamy (“@Swamy39“) tweeted “At some level the Company has the ashirwad of Adani, so I am informed. But I am checking it thoroughly because the collapse is an outrage.” . The tweet was made on Nov 27, 2023, which has received an about 59.1k views on X.

The user made another tweet saying “This Uttarakhand tunnel was built by which private company? Who were its share holders when the collapse took place? Was one of them Adani Group? I am asking not implying.” on Nov 27, 2023.

Several other accounts, including Seema Sengupta (“@SeemaSengupta5“), @tanmoyofc, M.M. Dheera(Advocate) (“@AdvocateDhera“) also made the same claim that 41 workers were trapped for 15 days in Uttarkashi’s collapsed Silkyara Tunnel because a company owned by PM Modi’s close friend Adani neglected to build the escape route that was supposed to be part of the construction design. Ravinder Kapur. (“@RavinderKapur2”) also made the same claim and later deleted the tweet.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

Adani Group condemned the concocted claims. They made it clear in a statement that neither the Adani Group nor any of its subsidiaries owns or holds any shares in the company that is building the tunnel, nor do they have any direct or indirect involvement in the project. The Adani group and the Tunnel incident have not been found to be connected, either directly or indirectly, up until now.

Adani Group (“@AdaniOnline“) tweeted “Clarification on nefarious attempts to link us to the unfortunate collapse of a tunnel in Uttarakhand.” and clarified about the incident on Nov 27, 2023.

Fact : Adani Group disapproved of the made-up allegations. They explained in a statement that the Adani Group and any of its subsidiaries do not own or hold any shares in the company involved in the construction of the tunnel, nor do they have any direct or indirect involvement in the tunnel’s construction. There has been no discovery of a direct or indirect link between the Adani group and the Tunnel incident up to this point.
