A picture of a woman being circulated with the assertion that it is Empress Mumtaz Mahal (1593-1631). Claiming that Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal specifically for her, it is shared mockingly to taunt her beauty.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @Badass1ZQ1 shared the picture of the woman purporting to be Empress Mumtaz Mahal and claimed that Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for her. The tweet was made on Feb 21, 2024. It has received an about more than 8k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @oyenakss made the same claim that the Taj Mahal was constructed by Shah Jahan for the woman as shown in the image shared. The archive can be read from above.

It’s a fact that Sultan Shahjahan Begum is pictured here and the portrait belongs to her. The Nawab Begum of Bhopal was Shahjahan Begum (1838–1901).

We visited Royal Collection Trust to see the details about the portrait. The caption of the picture is “Sultan Shahjahan Begum, GCSI (1838-1901), Begum of Bhopal : Prince of Wales Tour of India 1875-6 (vol.3) 1875-76”.
