A video purporting to show a religious location in Thenkasi, Tamil Nadu, has gone viral, claiming that a historic Hindu temple has been assisted by the government in its recent conversion to a mosque.

@kavita_tewari claimed the same in a twitter post that an ancient Hindu temple recently got converted into a mosque with the help of government in Thenkasi, Tamil Nadu.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

This is Pottalpudur Dargah, an important holy  religious place in Tamil Nadu that has endured for centuries in its current form as a dargah. Tamil Nadu tourism states that it is thought that Sufi saints chose to reside and spread Islam in Pottalpudur village after arriving there on their way from Iran to India. In 1674, upon his demise, a tomb was raised in honour of the greatest Sufi saint. The government has not made any recent changes, regardless of origin. So, the claim that the Hindu temple is changed to a Mosque with the help of the government in Tamil Nadu is not true at all. We visited tamilnadutourism, which wrote about the “Pottalpudur Dargah- Tamil Nadu”. Pottalpudur Dargah is an important religious site in Tamil Nadu. The mosque is constructed in a way that reflect the rich architectural heritage of Tamil Nadu that are must see for anyone who love art and architectures. A special feature of Pottalpudur Dargah is the annual Urs Festival. Urs refers to the death anniversary of the Sufi saint and is celebrated with great joy in this dargah and Qawwali performances (musical performances) are also an important part of the festival. Pottalpudur Dargah is the symbol of religious harmony and unity in the region. People from different faiths and backgrounds come to Dargah to seek solace and peace. The shrine has become a testament to Sufi inclusivity, love, forgiveness and acceptance.

The truth is that this is Pottalpudur Dargah, a significant Tamil Nadu religious place that has remained for centuries in the dargah form. Tamil Nadu tourism says that Sufi saints are said to have arrived in Pottalpudur village, India, during their journey from Iran, where they made the decision to preach Islam. The head Sufi saint’s tomb was eventually built in 1674 following his passing. The government has not recently changed anything, regardless of origin.

Later, after his death, people raised a tomb for the head Sufi saint in 1674. Regardless of origin, no recent change was made by the government.
