Fact Check: Video of a man being shot in Brazil falsely shared as Uttar Pradesh, India

A sensitive, disturbing video showing a man standing on a wooden bench being shot multiple times by a gunman has gone viral on social media platforms. The video is being circulated with the claim that it is from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video is from Brazil and has nothing to do with India.

Several users, and influencers have shared the video and claimed it to be from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar.

An account @journalistkk01 on X(Formerly Twitter) has shared the video and said. “Murder done in filmy style, video is going viral on social media, it is being told of Muzaffarnagar district.” The post has received 390k views and 1.6k likes so far.

Another account @times7_news on X has also shared the video and said. “Muzaffarnagar – The fearless killer shot the young man in a filmy style. Not one or two but all the bullets of the pistol were fired on his body and he was brutally murdered. The viral video is said to be from Muzaffar Nagar.”

Sharing the video, @Anil_Aazad_ wrote, “Murder done in filmy style is going viral on social media. The video is said to be from Muzaffarnagar district.” later he deleted the post.

Truth about the video of a man being shot in Brazil, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the sensitive video came to our knowledge, we tried to find out if the claims were true or false. During research, we found several media reports and social media posts. According to reports this video is from Brazil where a man named Lucas Pereira, AKA “Olhão” was shot dead on June 28, 2024, by a gunman, while working at a commercial point in Penetração 2 street, Novo Aleixo neighborhood, in the North zone of Manaus. As per the report, the victim was involved in a drug-related case in the region.

Moreover, Muzaffarnagar police have also released a statement regarding the viral video and said that the video is not from Muzaffarnagar. Action is being taken against the people spreading the video claiming to be from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video is not from India, but from Brazil.
