A video showing an elderly man being humiliated with a garland of slippers is being shared with the claim that a Hindu teacher in Bangladesh, who served for 40 years, was targeted by Islamic extremists. The narrative being pushed suggests this is an example of the mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. The man is neither Hindu nor a teacher. He is Dr. Ahmed Ali, a physician at Nawabpur Union Health Complex. The incident occurred on June 15 in Rajbari’s Baliakandi upazila, where locals paraded him over blasphemy allegations.
Several Propagandist accounts @KreatelyMedia, @MithilaWaala, and @AsianDigest, shared the video with emotionally charged captions like:
“SHAMEFUL – A Hindu teacher who served for 40 years was garlanded with slippers by radical Islamists in Bangladesh. This is the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh.”

These posts appear to frame the incident as a targeted communal attack, potentially fueling anti-Muslim sentiment among their audiences.
Truth Is: He’s a Doctor, Not a Hindu Teacher
As the video gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team starts an investigation. Through reverse image search and frame-by-frame video analysis using Google lens, we verified that the man in the video is neither Hindu nor a teacher. He was identified as Ahmed Ali, a doctor at the Nawabpur Union Health Complex. According to credible local media reports, Dr. Ali was assaulted and humiliated by locals who accused him of making blasphemous remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. As a form of punishment, they forced him to wear a garland of slippers and parade through the market. While the region has documented cases of minority-targeted violence, this particular incident is not connected to the victim’s religious identity or profession but stems from alleged offensive statements. Multiple Bangladeshi news outlets, including Kaler Kantho, Dhaka Times 24, and Swadesh Pratidin, have reported on the incident.

Their coverage confirms that the viral claim misrepresents the facts, and the narrative about a Hindu teacher being targeted is entirely fabricated.
