Fact Check: Pakistan PM Speech Falsely Linked to SCO Summit

A video of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being circulated with the claim that he openly accused India of terrorism directly in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 2025 SCO Summit in Tianjin. In reality, the video is unrelated to the SCO summit.

Pakistani propaganda account impersonating Indian @Tiju0Prakash  shared the video and wrote, “At the SCO Summit, Pakistan’s Prime Minister openly accused India of terrorism directly in front of Modi ji. Why have we failed to show the world any counter-evidence?Why does Modi remain silent when India faces humiliation on the global stage? Shameful & disgusting”

Truth: Video Is From ECO Meeting, Not SCO Summit

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted an investigation using keyword research and verified sources. Our research led us to DRM News, which covered the conference, reporting that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a speech at the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to ECO Vision 2025 and urging regional cooperation on climate change, trade, and connectivity. Sharif proposed initiatives such as a regional carbon market, focusing on economic and environmental collaboration. Another youtube news channel City 41 and Express News also reported on the ECO Summit, providing additional confirmation.

Further verification from the official ECO website confirms that the 17th ECO Summit was held on July 3–4, 2025, in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, under the theme “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future.” The Summit brought together heads of state, government representatives, ministers from ten ECO member states, and international organizations, focusing on sustainable development and regional cooperation.
