In Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh (UP), construction of the grand building of St. Mary’s Convent School was underway. The school building was being constructed like a church. Members of Bajrang Dal reached the construction site and vandalized the building and damaged several parts of the site.
A viral video showing Bajrang Dal vandalizing the school is being circulated on social media. The video was shared on July,29,2023 by @manishkumarttp stating, ” #Manipur is over now Uttar Pradesh Kanpur Dehat church house destroyed Ram Rajya” (Translated in English). The video is also being shared by other handles @Shayarcasm @Lovely92698976 @SAHR_Watch with the same claim relating it to Manipur.
Fact-Check
The viral video was detected by our team and we did some research and investigation and found the Twitter handle Kanpur Dehat Police @kanpurdehatpol. They have given a statement related to the viral video from their official Twitter handle stating ” The said case pertains to the month of June, taking immediate cognizance of which necessary legal action has been taken. Please don’t spread rumors without knowing all the details.” (Translated in English)
We also found a detailed report of the incident on the website of abplive. In the report, it is clearly mentioned that it was a school building which was vandalized by Bajrang Dal. Police and top official reached the spot and it was revealed that the building was sized nine months ago by Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) despite this, work was going on secretly in the building. Bajrang Dal activists have also accused the Christian missionary is doing the work of conversion by luring poor innocent villagers.
Conclusion
It is evident from the above fact check that the video of vandalization by Bajrang Dal was reported to be true but the claim of vandalization of a church is misleading and not factual. The truth is the school was built like a church and it has a church inside its premise which was sized by KDA. Therefore the claims made by the social media user are false and misleading.
