Fact Check: 36-year-old mother of six eloped with a beggar in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi?

Claims have been circulating on social media suggesting that a 36-year-old mother of six eloped with a beggar in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. However, these claims have been debunked as false. According to the police, the woman voluntarily appeared at the Harpalpur police station and clarified the situation. She explained that she left her home due to her husband’s abusive behaviour and had gone to stay with a relative in Farrukhabad.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) @aajtak wrote, “Hardoi: Mother of 6 children fell in love with a beggar, fled leaving home and family, husband filed FIR”. (Translated from Hindi).

Propaganda account @s_afreen7 also made a post and wrote, “UP, Hardoi A 36-year-old woman left her 6 children and husband and ran away with a beggar! Husband Raju (45) said -“My wife took the money that we got after selling the buffalo” It is very sad! What has happened to people these days!”

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by the users and media outlets came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the incident. We found that the claims were false and baseless.

To verify the claims made by the users and media outlets. We performed a relevant keyword search and found the police statement regarding the incident. According to the police, the woman voluntarily appeared at the Harpalpur police station and clarified that she left her home due to her husband’s abusive behaviour. She stated that she had gone to stay at a relative’s house in Farrukhabad. The allegations of her eloping with a beggar are unfounded and baseless.
