Fact Check: A scripted video of an individual snatching a microphone from a news reporter  at the Mahakumbh Mela was shared as a real incident 

A video is circulating on social media, allegedly showing an individual snatching a microphone from a news reporter during a public interview at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj and fleeing the scene. This clip has been shared with claims that it captures a real-life incident in which a thief stole the microphone from the reporter. However, the video is scripted and does not depict an actual theft.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @GaneshBhamu87 wrote, “People have created a completely funny atmosphere in Maha Kumbh… Now a boy has absconded with the reporter’s mic” ( Translated from Hindi).

Propaganda account @azizkavish also shared the video and wrote, “What a mess the Maha Kumbh has become. Now see, a reporter was doing an interview and a thief standing there ran away with the reporter’s mic”.( Translated from Hindi).

The truth about the video of an individual snatching a microphone, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not a real-life situation but scripted content.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to an Instagram post containing the same video. The individual seen in the video is Shiva Pushkar, a social media influencer. He himself uploaded the video on his Instagram account with the caption, “Kaisa laga mera majak” (How did you like my joke?), clarifying that it was intended as a humorous skit. 

Furthermore, the news channel featured in the video, Daily News India 24 (DNI24), didn’t claim any theft. The full video is available here.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was not a real-life situation but scripted content.

Influencers and propagandists are circulating scripted videos with misleading claims to set their narrative over the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
