Fact Check: Athens Airport’s video falsely shared as Israelis fleeing Tel Aviv amid the conflict in the Middle East

A video that shows a large crowd standing in line has been widely shared with claims that Israelis are fleeing Tel Aviv amid the ongoing conflict in the region. However, this video actually originates from Athens Airport in Greece. It captures a scene where numerous Israelis are waiting due to their flights being canceled as a result of the heightened security situation.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @Resist_05 wrote. Thousands of Israelis are fleeing Tel Aviv and heading back to their homes in Europe. Later, she deleted the post.

Propaganda account @stairwayto3dom also shared the video and wrote. “THOUSANDS of illegal settlers are FLEEING Tel Aviv and currently looking to RELOCATE to somehow here else in Europe!”.

The truth about the video, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not from Tel Aviv, Israel. But from Athens Airport, Greece.

To verify the claims made by the users. We closely watched the video and found words like Love Athens in the background. Further, we performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the same visuals. According to the media reports (1, 2) this video is from Athens Airport, Greece where several Israelis were stranded after their flights were canceled due to a security situation. As per the report, these Israelis were returning to Israel to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the New Year in Judaism.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not from Tel Aviv, but Athens Airport, Greece. Also, they were not fleeing Israel, but returning to Israel on holidays.
