Fact Check: Bangladeshi Hindu girl Smriti Rani Pal killed for refusing to be a slave of an extremist?

Claims are circulating on social media alleging that Smriti Rani Pal, a Bangladeshi Hindu girl, was murdered because she refused to become a “slave” to an extremist. However, official reports and investigations paint a different picture. According to the reports, the police have arrested three relatives including her husband after the victim’s father filed a complaint in this matter. There are no verified sources supporting the claims made by the social media users.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) @avroneel80 wrote, “All Hindus, please live together in unity. Today, Smriti Rani Pal (24) from Sreepur, Gazipur, was killed by being hacked to death by an Islamist jihadi. Tomorrow, it could be you or me who faces the same fate”.

Propaganda account @pakistan_untold also made a post and wrote, “Bangladeshi Hindu girl Smriti Rani Pal hacked to de@th for refusing to be a s€x sl@ve of an Islamist.”

The truth behind the claims related to Smriti Rani Pal, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims and found a different story.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found a report regarding the incident. According to the media report, the accused in the case are her relatives including her husband. Hence, the incident has nothing to do with religious hate crimes and harassment.
