Fact Check: CCTV footage of a grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar circulated with misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are circulating a video of a grenade attack at night, falsely claiming that Khalistani extremists targeted an Indian Colonel’s residence in Amritsar, Punjab. However, these claims are baseless and fabricated. Reports confirm that two motorcycle-borne assailants hurled a hand grenade at the Thakurdwara temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propaganda account @TacticalTribun wrote, “Khalistani rebels conducted a grenade attack on Indian Clonal’s residence in Amritsar, Punjab.”

Another propaganda account, @PSYWAROPS, also shared the video and wrote, “#BREAKINGNEWS. Khalistani frẹẹdom fỉghtẹrs launched a brutal grenade attack on the residence of an #Indian colonel in #Amritsar, #Punjab.”

The truth about the video of attack in Amritsar, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was related to an attack on a temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala, not on an Indian Army Colonel’s residence.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports and Police statements regarding the incident. According to reports (1, 2), two motorcycle-borne assailants hurled a hand grenade at the Thakurdwara temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala. The attack, captured on CCTV, took place in the early hours of March 15, around 12:35 AM. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Authorities suspect the involvement of Pakistan’s ISI and are investigating the incident.

Additionally, Commissioner GPS Bhullar said, “We had arrested three people with a commercial quantity of heroin. During their interrogation and investigation, it came to light that this whole network was being run by a person named Kardeep Yadav… We have arrested him (Karandeep Yadav) along with two other people, Sajan Singh and Mukesh Kumar Yadav… These people have links with Babbar Khalsa. And I hope that there are many things which will come to light after their arrest… forensic science will give its report on this…”

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was related to an attack on a temple, not on an Indian Army Colonel’s residence.
