Fact Check: Man strangled to death in Rajasthan’s Dausa for refusing Holi colours; propagandists circulate communal claims

A sensitive CCTV footage showing an individual being attacked inside a library has been shared with the claim that a Muslim man was strangled to death by Hindutva men in Rajasthan, India, for refusing to play Holi. However, the truth is that the victim has been identified as Hansraj Meena, indicating that he was not from the Muslim community.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @ashoswai wrote. “A Muslim man was lynched inside a library by Hindutva men in Rajasthan, India, because he refused to play Holi.”

Another propaganda account @Mohamme61667711 also shared the video and wrote, “Hindus are the dirtiest creatures on earth. With their fucking hindutva!. A Muslim man was lynched inside a library by Hindutva men in Rajasthan, India because he refused to play Holi”.

Several other users, influencers, and propagandists have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here: @ziajabed97, @daisyksoo, @Polplusorg, and @queen_4111222.

The truth about the video of Man strangled to death, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident. We found that the incident was unrelated to Muslim individuals.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to reports (1, 2, 3, 4), a tragic incident occurred in Rajasthan’s Dausa district on March 12, 2025, where a 25-year-old student named Hansraj Meena was assaulted and killed after refusing to have Holi colours applied to him. Hansraj, who was preparing for competitive examinations, was studying at a local library in Ralawas village when three individuals—identified as Ashok, Bablu, and Kaluram—approached him with the intent to apply colours. Upon his refusal, the trio allegedly kicked him, beat him with belts, and one of them strangled him, leading to his death.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was not related to religious hate crimes against Muslim individuals.
