Sensitive visuals showing a child’s head with surgical staples have been circulated with claims that a Dalit student from Class 6 at a government school was brutally beaten by a caste Hindu PT teacher as part of caste-based discrimination in Tamil Nadu. However, we found that the incident was not related to a caste-based hate crime.
Sharing the visuals on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @ambedkariteIND wrote, “Horrific A Dalit student of class 6 of a government school was brutally beaten by a caste Hindu PT teacher, the condition of the boy is critical, this painful incident is from Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. DalitLivesMatter.”

Another propaganda account, @TribalArmy, also shared an image and wrote, “This is not just an attack on a child, it is an attack on the conscience of the entire Bahujan Samaj! A Dalit student was beaten so brutally in Tamil Nadu that his head was split into two pieces. The school, which should be a temple of knowledge, has become a den of caste hatred. Chief Minister @mkstalin ji, strict action should be taken against the culprits!” (Translated from Hindi).

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the visuals and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @TheMooknayakEng, @BheemsenaBheem.
The truth behind the claims, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the sensitive visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident. We found that the incident was not related to a caste-based hate crime.
To verify the claims made by the users and propagandists. We performed relevant keywords searches and found a report regarding the incident. According to the report, on March 14, an 11-year-old boy from V. Agaram Government School in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district was struck with a bamboo stick by his Physical Education teacher, Sengenni.
Additionally, the police stated that the boy was hit on his hands, but after falling ill, he was taken to a hospital where doctors found nerve damage in his head. The SP noted that Sengenni has not been charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as he belongs to the SC community.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the accused and victim belonged to the same community. Thus, it was unrelated to caste-based hate crime.
