Fact-Check: Digitally altered video of Nagarjuna Cement advertisement has gone viral with false claims

Everyday we witness anti-India propaganda online on different social media platforms, most of which are spread by anti-India foreign accounts. Most of the anti-India posts on social media contain racist comments against Indian people. In the same sequence, a video of Nagarjuna Cement advertisement was digitally modified and shared to defame and target Indian people.

The video shows a plane colliding with a skyscraper (Twin Towers) in which the building remains intact there without getting damaged while the plane changes its direction and moves ahead. However, D-Intent Data has found that the advertisement video has been digitally altered.

Several anti-India propaganda accounts have shared the video and tried to make fun of India.

Sharing the video an account @NdimloUnathi on X (Formerly Twitter) has said, “An Indian cement company ad”. The video has received more than 3 million views, more than 30k likes and thousands of reactions.

Another user @Joshua_Ubeku on X has also shared the video and captioned “An ad from an Indian cement company”. The post has also received significant views, likes and engagements.

Truth about the viral video of Nagarjuna Cement advertisement, fact-check

As soon as the posts containing the video came to our knowledge, after watching it, we learnt that the video is about Nagarjuna Cement advertisement. Subsequently we conducted research and found the original advertisement video of Nagarjuna Cement on their official YouTube channel. The video was uploaded in May 2021. The video’s description states, “Nagarjuna Cement Anthem featuring brand ambassador Varun Tej. Our strength is your trust!!.”

The original video doesn’t feature the scene of the plane colliding with the twin towers. It has been digitally altered.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s fact-check that the advertisement video of Nagarjuna Cement showing a plane colliding with twin towers is fake.

Anti-India propaganda accounts from different countries are circulating digitally altered advertisement videos of Indian companies with false claims to target India and to get spotlight and engagement on social media.
