Fact Check: Hindus attacked Sikhs protesting peacefully in Canada?

Extremists and anti-India propagandists are spreading misleading visuals from Canada, alleging that Sikh protesters, peacefully demonstrating the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar (a Khalistani extremist), were attacked by extremist Hindus, which led to a Sikh retaliation. However, these claims are false and fabricated. The actual incident occurred when members of the Hindu community were attending a religious event at a Hindu temple in Brampton, and extremist Khalistani supporters launched an unprovoked attack on them. 

Sharing a video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @AsianDigest wrote. “Sikhs were holding a peaceful protest in Canada against #Nijjar Killing when radical Hindus came out to counter anti-Sikh Protest and raised anti-Sikh slogans. Sikhs retaliated”.

Another propaganda account @FaryalBD also shared the video and wrote, “Sikhs and Hindus clashed fiercely in Canada. The Sikhs beat the Hindu miscreants and drove them to the temple in Brampton.”

The truth behind the claims from Canada, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found multiple reports suggesting that it was a one-sided attack on Hindus. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2), the actual incident occurred when members of the Hindu community were attending a religious event at a Hindu temple in Brampton, and extremist Khalistani supporters launched an unprovoked attack on them. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India also issued a statement condemning the heinous attack on Hindus in Canada.

Extremists and propagandists are circulating videos from Brampton with misleading claims to set their narrative against a particular community.
