Recently, a statement attributed to Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus has circulated, claiming he said, “The Hindu community of Bangladesh is associated with Sheikh Hasina. So Hindus will be attacked.” However, D-Intent Data has revealed that this statement has been distorted to suggest he supports violence against minorities in Bangladesh. In truth, he was discussing past events, not predicting future actions.

Sharing the statement on X (Formerly Twitter) @KreatelyMedia wrote, “Now he is speaking openly”. The post has received more than 180k views, 14.5k likes and a significant number of engagements.

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also shared the statement and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @RadharamnDas, @jadon201

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the statement and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the statement and found that this statement has been misrepresented.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found a report and video interview of Muhammad Yunus.

Responding to a question regarding the violence against minorities in Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus said, People are in the mood for revolution. So this is a revolutionary situation. They were killed. So they are looking for people who made their colleagues die. So people were attacking the followers of the party headed by Sheikh Hasina. When you say minority community being attacked, that minority community, particularly the Hindu community, was associated with her. So you cannot distinguish whether they were attacked because they’re followers of Sheikh Hasina or they were attacked because they are Hindu. But they were attacked, that’s for sure. But then we took over the government and tried to bring peace. I kept telling everybody that we may have differences of opinion. That doesn’t mean we have to attack each other.

Therefore it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the statement of Muhammad Yunus has been distorted and circulated.

Intent
