Fact-Check: No, Indian Army Dhruv Helicopter Did Not Rescue Nepali Politicians

Pakistan-based propaganda accounts are circulating a video of a rescue operation, falsely claiming that an Indian Army Dhruv helicopter was used to evacuate Nepali politicians after being ousted by the public. These claims are entirely false. The Indian Army has no involvement in any rescue operations related to politicians amid the ongoing violent protests in Nepal. While the helicopter in the video could be a HAL Dhruv, also operated by the Nepal Army, there is no connection to the Indian Army. Allegations of an “Indian-backed Nepali government” have already been debunked earlier.

A propaganda account @TacticalTribun shared this clip, captioning that an Indian Army Dhruv helicopter was seen rescuing Indian-backed Nepali politicians after the public threw them out.

Truth: Dhruv Helicopters Were Officially Handed to Nepal in 2014

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated using keyword research and credible sources. Our findings led us to a 2014 post by @narendramodi, where he announced handing over the HAL Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mark III to the Nepal Army.

In NDTV, it was reported on November 25, 2014, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially handed over a HAL Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) to the Nepal Army during his visit, marking a key moment in India–Nepal defense cooperation.

In NMF News (YouTube), visuals of the ceremony were shown, confirming that the Dhruv Mark-III helicopter was gifted by India to Nepal to aid in disaster relief and strengthen its military capabilities.

In Army Technology, the defense portal confirmed that India later delivered additional Dhruv helicopters to the Nepalese Army, underlining that Nepal operates its own Dhruv fleet, distinct from the Indian Army’s.

Similarly, in SP’s MAI, the handover of the HAL Dhruv to Nepal was documented in detail, including its specifications and the formal induction into Nepal’s fleet through official defense cooperation agreements.

Intent:

Propaganda accounts are circulating false and fabricated claims about the ongoing unrest in Nepal to set their narrative against India.
