Fact Check: Old video of a dispute between shopkeepers at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala shared with communal claims

Recently, a video of a dispute between shopkeepers at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib showing a man attempting to crush people under his vehicle at a Gurdwara premises has gone viral on social media platforms. Influencers, propagandists and extremists accounts have shared the video. And made the claim that a Hindu extremist carried out a terrorist attack on a Sikh Gurdwara in India. Many women, men, and children were killed and injured. However, D-Intent Data has debunked the propaganda.

Old video of dispute between shopkeepers at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib resurfaced the communal claims

Influencers, propagandists and extremists anti-India accounts have shared the video of a man attempting to crush the people under his vehicle at a Gurdwara premises.

Bangladesh-based anti-India propaganda account @FaryalBD has shared the video on X (Formerly Twitter) and wrote. “A terrorist attack by a Hindu extremist on a Sikh Gurdwara in India. Many women, men and children were killed and injured.”

Another propaganda account @KhalsaVision on X wrote, Terror attack outside Gurdwara Seesganj Sahib, New Delhi. Allegedly one “H” extremist ran over his SUV over numerous Sikh men, women & children.

Truth about the video of dispute between shopkeepers at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib , Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video came to our knowledge, we conducted research. And found that this is an old video from Patiala, Punjab and has nothing to do with religion-based hate crime and terrorist attack.

During research, the same video was found on PTC news which was uploaded in April 2024. As per the media channel this video shows clash between two shopkeepers over old enmity outside Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib Patiala.

Moreover, we found a report regarding the incident published by Times Of India according to the report. This is an old video of an altercation between two shopkeepers from Patiala, Punjab, where a man named Ajit Pal Singh tried to damage his rival’s shop. In which he used his vehicle as a weapon against a bystander group of local traders and devotees. No one was injured in the incident, and Shrine’s SGPC-appointed manager, Karnail Singh, said both shopkeepers in the altercation were Sikh.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have also issued a statement on its official X (Formerly Twitter) account which read. “Some videos are being circulated on some social media handles claiming that there was a terrorist attack on Gurdwara Sheeshganj Sahib. These videos and facts are completely false and are being propagated with malicious intent, against which legal action is being taken.”

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that this is an old video from Patiala, Punjab. And has nothing to do with religion-based hate crime, terrorist attack and New Delhi’s Seesganj Sahib Gurdwara.
