Recently, an image of a Palestinian teenage girl sitting on the ground and surrounded by Israeli forces has gone viral on social media platforms. Several users, influencers, and propagandists have shared the image, claiming that it shows Israeli brutality against innocent Palestinians in the ongoing war in Gaza. However, D-Intent Data has found that this is an old image and has nothing to do with the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. The teenage girl in the image was not innocent.
Propagandists circulate old images of Palestinian teenage girl with misleading claims
Several users, influencers, and propagandists have shared the image and made false claims targeting Israeli forces.
Sharing the image, serial fake news peddler, propagandist and extremist account @stairwayto3dom on X (Formerly Twitter) said. “10 Zionists surround a 15 year old girl and EXECUTE HER!”.
Another account @Nadira_ali12 on X shared the image and wrote, “More than 10 Israeli soldiers surrounded a 15 year old Palestinian girl and shot her”
Palestine supporter @Fx1Jonny has also shared the image and said, “This is 1 of the most evil things I’ve seen in 9 months.At least 10 Israeli men surrounded a 15 year old girl and execute her!”
Pakistan-based account @MirMAKOfficial also posted the image on X and made a caption in Urdu which translates to. “This picture is from 2023. 10 Israeli Haramkhor soldiers shot a 15-year-old girl. And the ambulance did not come. This girl bled to death. Was there a war with Hamas at that time? No ,These bastards kill at any time Hamas is an excuse. Cheer up Curse.”

Truth about the viral image of Palestinian teenage girl, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the image came to our notice, we ran a reverse image search to verify the claims made by the social media users. During research, we found multiple reports containing the same image of a teenage girl sitting on the ground and surrounded by security personnel.
According to the reports, this image shows a Palestinian teenage girl Marah Jawdat Moussa Bakir who was detained for carrying out a stabbing attack in East Jerusalem in October 2015. Two individuals were injured in the attack.
As per Albawaba news, Moussa Bakir was shot and subsequently detained by Israeli forces on Oct. 12, 2015 after carrying out a stabbing attack which injured two Israelis in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, where she attended the nearby Abdullah Bin al-Hussein high school. In this incident she had received some injuries in her arm. Later, she was sentenced to eight years in prison for the attempted stabbing.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the image is old and the teenage girl was detained after carrying out a stabbing attack.
