Fact Check: Old video of Israeli forces retaliating miscreants misrepresented with false claims

A video depicting a vehicle chasing a group of people and running over one of them has been circulated with the claim that it shows Israeli forces recently targeting innocent civilians. However, D-Intent Data has found that this video is actually old, dating back to at least 2015, and shows an incident involving Israeli security forces responding to stone pelters.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propagandist and extremist account @stairwayto3dom wrote. “ZIONISTS RUN OVER RANDOM CIVILIANS FOR NO REASON”. As of now, the post has received more than 750k views, 19k likes and a significant number of engagements.

Another propaganda account @ShaykhSulaiman has also shared the video and wrote. “ISRAELI FORCES RUNNING IVER INNOCENT CIVILIANS FOR NO REASON AT ALL”

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also shared the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @mustafabeyefe, @ahfahmy85

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the short video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that this was an old video available at least since 2015 showing Israeli security forces retaliating against stone pelters.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to a longer version of the video uploaded on YouTube in 2018. The longer version of the video shows a group of people pelting stones at the security personnel, subsequently the security personnel chasing them and running over one of them. During research, we also found media reports containing the same visuals published in 2015.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video was old and showed Israeli security forces responding to stone pelters,. Nothing to do with the targeted torture of innocent civilians.

Intent

Propagandists and extremists are disseminating outdated videos with misleading claims to support their narrative against Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
