Fact Check: Old video of road collapse from Turkey falsely shared as India

A video circulating on social media purports to show a road collapse at the exit of a tunnel in India. However, D-Intent Data has determined that the footage is actually from Turkey, specifically from the Mesudiye district in Ordu. The road collapse occurred in July 2023 due to severe weather conditions.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) Rajeev Tyagi (@rajivtango) wrote. Anything and everything he’s ever built is crumbling right before our eyes… Soon we’ll be back where we were in 2014. As of now, the post has received more than 620k views, 5.3k likes and a significant number of engagements. 

The truth about the video of road collapse, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not from India but an old incident from Turkey. 

To verify the claims circulating on social media. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the video on Google. This led us to several media reports containing the same video. 

According to the media reports, this video is from Ordu, Turkey where the road collapsed due to heavy rain and flooding in Mesudiye, in July 2023. As per the reports, due to the heavy rain that continued for 3 days(July 2023) in Ordu, the road at the tunnel exit on the Black Sea-Mediterranean Highway in the Mesudiye district collapsed.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video depicting the road collapse is not from India but an old incident from Turkey’s Mesudiye.
