Fact Check: Police busted a sex racket in Pune, propagandists circulate misleading claims 

Propaganda accounts are circulating a video claiming that four Western women were held captive in India by a sex trafficking gang and later rescued by the police. However, these claims are factually incorrect. According to reports, the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch busted a sex racket on Tuesday, arresting a female agent who operated through a mobile messenger app and was involved with four women from Thailand. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propaganda account @AsianDigest digest wrote, “Four Western Women were held captive in India by Sex Trafficking Gang. They were rescued by Police after complaints”

The truth behind the claims about sex racket, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident. We found that the incident was unrelated to Western women and sex trafficking gangs.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches and found media reports regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2), the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch busted a sex racket on Tuesday, arresting a female agent who operated through a mobile messenger app and was involved with four women from Thailand. 

Senior Inspector Digambar Suryavanshi informed media outlets that police received a tip-off about a foreign national running a sex racket in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The arrested agent arranged for customers to book villas in areas like Talegaon Dabhade and Lonavla before sending the women. All five women had arrived in India on tourist visas four months ago. The arrested agent was handed over to the Hinjewadi police while the other four were sent to a rescue home.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was unrelated to Western women and gang involvement.
