Fact Check: Terrorists ambush Indian army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, propagandists circulate misleading claims 

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are falsely claiming that multiple Indian soldiers were killed in a terrorist ambush in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the official reports confirm that an army vehicle was targeted by suspected militants in a forward village near the Line of Control in the Rajouri district on Wednesday. The brief exchange of fire near Phal village in the Sunderbani sector resulted in no reported casualties. Further action is underway.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @SAnPerspective wrote, JUST IN: A coordinated roadside ambush attack was carried out against the Indian Army in disputed Jammu and Kashmir region by unknown men. Initial reports indicate heavy casualties among Indian soldiers, red alert declared in regional hospitals.

Another propaganda account, @PSYWAROPS, also made a post and wrote, “On 26 Feb 2025, #Kashmiri frẹẹdom fỉghtẹrs ambushed an #Indian Army convoy in Sunderbani, #Rajouri, #IIOJK. Multiple Indian soldiers were killed, many wounded. Not a single Kashmiri fỉghtẹr lost. They seized Indian weapons & vanished, leaving the occupiers in chaos.”

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the incident. We found that no casualties were reported from the incident.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports regarding the terrorist attack. According to reports (1, 2, 3), an army vehicle was targeted by suspected militants in a forward village near the Line of Control in the Rajouri district on Wednesday. The brief exchange of fire near Phal village in the Sunderbani sector resulted in no reported casualties. Further action is underway.

The Army has also issued a statement the incident: “Terrorists opened fire at an #IndianArmy convoy in Sunderbani, #Akhnoor, yesterday. The firing was ineffective, and our own troops responded swiftly. Some social media handles are falsely claiming casualties to own troops. This is false and deliberate disinformation. Search operations are presently underway to neutralize the perpetrators”

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that no casualties were reported from the incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.
