Fact Check: United States and Canada approved plans to deport 1.2 million illegal Indian immigrants?

Pakistan-based anti-India accounts are falsely claiming that the U.S. and Canada plan to deport 1.2 million illegal Indian immigrants, which is baseless. In reality, India has announced plans to repatriate 18,000 undocumented migrants from the U.S. to strengthen bilateral relations. There is no evidence of similar actions involving Canada. A July 2024 Pew Research report estimates 725,000 unauthorized Indian immigrants were in the U.S. as of 2022.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @NavCom24 wrote, “BREAKING: Just in, the United States and Canada have approved the plan to deport 1.2 Million illegal Indian immigrants.”

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the claims. Their posts can be seen here, @AuctionMirza, @LadyVelvet_HFQ.

The truth behind the claims about illegal Indian immigrants, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that these claims were nothing more than propaganda.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We conducted relevant keyword searches and thorough investigation but couldn’t find any credible sources supporting these claims. During research, we found multiple reports (1, 2) suggesting that India has announced plans to repatriate 18,000 undocumented migrants from the United States. This initiative is focused on strengthening bilateral relations.

As of now, there is no evidence or official information indicating that India is repatriating undocumented Indian immigrants from Canada or that Canada is deporting them. According to a July 2024 report by the Pew Research Center, approximately 725,000 unauthorized Indian immigrants were residing in the United States as of 2022.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that these claims were false and self-invented.
