Fact Check: Video of attack on Jubo League members in Bangladesh’s Dhaka circulated with communal claims 

A video showing a group of people assaulting and harassing a woman in public is being shared with the claim that extremists are torturing a Hindu woman in Dhaka Bangladesh as part of a religious hate crime against Hindus. However, the truth is that the woman is not Hindu but Muslim and a member of the central committee of the Jubo League.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @FrontalForce wrote, “Condition of Hindu women in Bangladesh”

Another propaganda account @KreatelyMedia “Condition of Hindu women in Bangladesh”. Later, the post was deleted.

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen, @ManojSh28986262, @SMaRT4Bharat, @The_viralvideo_, @Kisna179, @VinodKori166.

The truth about the video from Dhaka, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the disturbing video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident. Our investigation found that the incident was not a religious hate crime against Hindu women but an attack on a Muslim woman affiliated with the Awami League.

To verify the claims made by the users and Influencers. We performed relevant keywords searches and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to reports (1, 2, 3), the woman is not Hindu but Muslim and a member of the central committee of the Jubo League. She was detained and harassed along with other workers during an Awami League procession in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. She has been identified as Laboni Chowdhury, daughter of Abul Kashem Chowdhury and sister of Touhidur Rahman Chowdhury.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was not related to religious hate crimes against Hindus.
