Fact Check: Video of documentary screening on Babri mosque in Maharashtra misrepresented as Bangladesh

A video circulating on social media claims to show a public screening of a documentary on the Babri mosque in Bangladesh, allegedly aimed at inciting violence against Hindus during the ongoing unrest. However, this claim is false. The video is actually from Maharashtra, India, where workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) organized the screening in Mumbra, Thane district, on December 6, 2024.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @voiceofhumans01 wrote, “This video is being shown in Bangladesh”. (Translated from Hindi). As of now, the post has received more than 90k views, 3.9k likes and a significant number of engagements.

The truth about the video of Babri mosque documentary, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. And found that the video was not from Bangladesh but from India.

To verify the claims made by users, we conducted a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video using Google Lens. This search led us to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that contained the same visuals. The video was uploaded on the official X account of SDPI Mumbra Kalwa. The caption for the post reads, “Babri Masjid Timeline Exhibition | SDPI Mumbra at Darul Falah | A Journey Through History.” Additionally, the post includes a link to a YouTube video where a longer version of the content can be found.

We also found the same video on the timeline of the Instagram account of SDPI Mumbra Kalwa. According to available information, the screening was organized by workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Mumbra, a locality in the Thane district, on December 6, 2024.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was not from Bangladesh but from India’s Maharashtra.
