The Actual Incident:

Shamshad Ansari, a man belonging to the Muslim community, approached Haradhan Mahato in Sikni, posing as his son’s colleague. Ansari fabricated a story, stating that Haradhan’s son urgently needed Rs 20,000. Sympathetic to his plea, Haradhan handed over the money. However, Ansari’s intentions were far from genuine. He swiftly left after receiving the funds. Later, when Haradhan’s son Ramkumar Mahato returned home, the truth came to light.

Upon discovering Ansari’s deceit, Ramkumar, along with his neighbours, pursued Ansari who was attempting to flee on a motorcycle near a railway crossing. They confronted Ansari, leading to an altercation. Ansari was subjected to physical assault using sticks and fists. Police intervention followed, and Ansari was rushed to Ramgarh Sadar Hospital. The police promptly intervened and transported Ansari to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Law and Order Measures: Arrests and Clarity

In response to the incident, law enforcement took swift action. Several individuals were apprehended for their involvement in the altercation. The police clarified that this event was not a case of mob lynching but rather a confrontation that escalated due to Ansari’s actions. The officers emphasized Ansari’s criminal background and the fraudulent nature of his intent. The police investigation uncovered Ansari’s criminal history, including involvement in minor crimes like chain snatching, money extraction, etc. and had multiple cases registered at different police stations against him. Ansari’s actions on that fateful evening were driven by fraudulent intentions, attempting to swindle money from a trusting individual. Contrary to the initial narrative, this incident lacked a religious angle. This angle further diminishes claims of religiously motivated violence.

Context of Anti-Lynching Legislation

It’s important to note that Jharkhand had passed legislation against mob lynching, joining other states like Bengal, Manipur, and Rajasthan. However, the incident involving Ansari was not a case that fell under the definition of mob lynching as stated in the anti-lynching law of Jharkhand’s state law. Following comprehensive analysis and meticulous fact-checking, our team has investigated the claim.
