Since 2014-15, Indian Railways has completed electrification of about 40,000 Route Km on Broad gauge (BG) network. There is substantial jump in electrification from about 1.42 Km/day between 2004-14 to about 18 Km/day in 2022-23. During 2014-23, Rs 43,346 crore have been spent on electrification.  Further, Rs. 8,070 crore have been allocated for electrification during 2023-24. Further, railjournal posted about this on July 13, 2018 with the headline “Bangladesh starts Padma Rail Link construction”. BANGLADESH Railway (BR) started work on the Padma Rail Link project on July 3 after signing a $US 2.6bn loan with Chinese Exim Bank for the project on April 27. BR signed a $US 3.1bn commercial contract with CRFG in August 2016 under the government-to-government arrangement but a delay in signing the deal due to the fixation of the loan amount and interest rate delayed the project for nearly 20 months.
