What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact
The image actually originates from Bangladesh and depicts crowded trains over the Eid holiday; it has nothing to do with India. Over 96% of Indian railway track is electrified as of April 2024. So, the claim that the video of the overcrowded trains is from India is not true at all. We visited pib.gov, which posted about this with the heading “About 94% Of Total Broad Gauge Network Of The Indian Railways Electrified” on Feb 2, 2024.
Since 2014-15, Indian Railways has completed electrification of about 40,000 Route Km on Broad gauge (BG) network. There is substantial jump in electrification from about 1.42 Km/day between 2004-14 to about 18 Km/day in 2022-23. At present, 61,813 Route km on BG network has been electrified, which is about 94% of the total Broad Gauge (BG) network of the Indian Railways. The electrification of balance BG network has been taken up. During 2014-23, Rs 43,346 crore have been spent on electrification. Further, Rs. 8,070 crore have been allocated for electrification during 2023-24. Further, railjournal posted about this on July 13, 2018 with the headline “Bangladesh starts Padma Rail Link construction”. BANGLADESH Railway (BR) started work on the Padma Rail Link project on July 3 after signing a $US 2.6bn loan with Chinese Exim Bank for the project on April 27. BR signed a $US 3.1bn commercial contract with CRFG in August 2016 under the government-to-government arrangement but a delay in signing the deal due to the fixation of the loan amount and interest rate delayed the project for nearly 20 months.
saudalissa posted the video on Instagram on April 8, 2024.
