A Twitter account named South Asian Human Rights Watch (@SAHR_Watch), known for its anti-India, anti-Hindu, and pro-Pakistan stance, propagated the misleading narrative. They attempted to give this incident a communal twist and disturb peace and harmony by alleging that the victim belongs to the minority community, i.e. the Muslim community. They wanted to add the Hindu-Muslim angle to the whole incident.

The True Timeline

This incident actually occurred in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, and the video is from around April-May 2023. The video in question began circulating widely in July. According to the police, both the victim and the accused were part of the same group, and this deplorable act was the result of mutual enmity. Furthermore, the victim had prior criminal records, including cases of theft and looting.

Swift Police Action

On July 25, 2023, the Hindustan Times reported an article. The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a suspect seen in the video for assaulting and urinating on an unconscious man in Agra. The disturbing video showed the accused and his friends brutally attacking the victim. The Agra Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) took immediate action on July 24, tweeting that they had taken cognizance of the video. They booked and detained one accused and formed a team to arrest the remaining individuals involved.

On the same day, Agra Police shared photos of two accused individuals arrested and detained. They revealed that investigations were underway to locate the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
