Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh — Police Forcibly Handed Over A Pistol With Cartridges To a Young Motorcyclist To Trap Him in A False Case? Fact-Check

A man was arrested by traffic police in Kanpur, and a video of the incident went viral with the false accusation that the police were forcing a young man riding a bike to hand over a pistol with cartridges.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @Tanvirpost tweeted “Uttar Pradesh Kanpur The traffic police is forcibly handing over a pistol with cartridges to a young man riding a bike. Checking the number plate of the motorcycle reveals that the owner of this motorcycle is one Tanveer Aziz. It’s amazing how easy it is to prove anyone a goon by handing him a gun. #ShameOnYouUpPolice“. The tweet was made on Nov 30, 2023, which has received an about 67.3k views on X.

Versha Singh (“@Vershasingh26“) also made the same claim by tweeting “These actions are of Kanpur Police. Watch it live. Police have claimed to have recovered the pistol from the young man at Tatmile intersection… whereas in the video it is clearly visible that the pistol has been given to the young man from the front. #UttarPradesh“.

Several other accounts, including Dilip Singh (“@dileepsinghlive“), Mohammad Imran (“@ImranTG1“), Zakir Ali Tyagi (“@ZakirAliTyagi“), @Aloktripath410, tv24UP# (“@tv24up“) also made the same claim that the viral video shows the police officer caught a young man with a pistol and recorded him forcibly to arrest him. What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The truth is that there is additional CCTV footage that captures the biker falling and the pistol falling as well. The police noticed the falling object, picked it up, and attempted to give it to the biker while recording. The incident has already been explained by Kanpur police.

POLICE COMMISSIONERATE KANPUR NAGAR (“@kanpurnagarpol“) tweeted “During checking in the afternoon on 29.11.2023, one pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from a person. In this regard, Railbazar police station was immediately called to the spot and necessary legal action was taken by the Railbazar police station @kanpurtraffic. @Uppolice“. The tweet was made on Nov 30, 2023, which has clarified the incident.
