Fact: An Old video of a man brutally attacking a woman from Malaysia was falsely shared as India 

A disturbing video depicting a man brutally attacking a woman is being falsely circulated as an incident from India. However, our investigation reveals that the video is not from India but originates from Malaysia. Reports confirm that this incident took place in November 2022 in Kajang, Kuala Lumpur, where a man named Reduan Mahamood attacked his wife. The footage is old and has no connection to India whatsoever.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @NazneenAkhtar23 wrote, “Now it seems that there is a trend in India to kill people so that these criminals can become the headlines of the newspapers. By the way, Savdhaan India has been banned on TV, now the live show of Savdhaan India can be seen in real every day. The biggest role is that of the cameraman, he should get an award”. (Translated from Hindi).

Another propaganda account @urjfati also shared the video and wrote, Now there is a trend of killing people so that these criminals can become the headlines of the newspapers. By the way, Savdhaan India has been banned on TV, now the live show of Savdhaan India can be seen in real every day. The biggest role is of the cameraman, he should get an award.

The truth about the video of a man brutally attacking a woman, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from India but an old video from Malaysia.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some keyframes from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to a media report containing the same visuals published in November 2022. According to the report, this incident occurred in November 2022 in Kajang, Kuala Lumpur, where a man named Reduan Mahamood assaulted his wife. 

Furthermore, we performed relevant keyword search and found multiple reports (1, 2, 3) regarding this incident. As per the reports, The man was sentenced to three months in prison and fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court. 

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was not from India, but an old incident from Malaysia.

Influencers are circulating old videos with Malaysia with misleading claims to set their narrative in India.
