Fact Check: Old image of a group of Sikh women holding weapons circulated with misleading claims

Pakistan-based propaganda accounts are circulating an image of Sikh women holding weapons, falsely alleging that Sikh women in Punjab are preparing for an armed struggle against the so-called ‘Hindu regime.’ This claim is not only baseless but also dangerously inflammatory. No credible evidence or reliable source supports such allegations. Additionally, the image has been circulating on various platforms since at least January 2020.

Sharing the image on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @PSYWAROPS wrote, “Sikh women in Punjab are preparing for an armed struggle against the Hindu occupational regime. India will collapse soon.”

Another propaganda account @Sardar_Nouman__  also shared the image and wrote, “Sikh women in Punjab are preparing for an armed struggle against the Hindu occupational regime. India will collapse soon”.

The truth about the photo shared as Sikh women holding weapons, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the photo. We found that the image was old and unverified.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to a Facebook post containing the same image uploaded in 2020. We investigated thoroughly but couldn’t find any verified sources providing the actual details about the photo.

Additionally, no credible source confirms such preparations among Sikh women. Punjab remains a democratic state within India, where political and social tensions exist, but there is no widespread armed resistance movement.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the image was old and currently no such armed resistance exists in Punjab.
