Fact Check: DRDO and Indian Navy successfully flight-tested VLSRSAM in Odisha; propagandists circulating misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are circulating claims asserting that the Indian Navy’s short-range surface-to-air missile (VL-SRSAM) test has failed. The missile landed in a house in Chandigarh City, killing 3 people and injuring 2 others. However, these claims are false and fabricated. In reality, DRDO and the Indian Navy successfully flight-tested VLSRSAM in Odisha.

Sharing an image on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @PSYWAROPS wrote, India’s VLSRSAM test a complete failure – missile crashes within seconds. Despite official claims of success, the much-publicized VLSRSAM test ended in disaster today. Just 4-5 seconds after launch, the missile veered off course and crashed, failing to even follow its intended trajectory.

Another propaganda account, @Alpha_Intel7, also shared a video and wrote,  “The Indian Navy’s short-range surface to air missile (VL-SRSAM) test has failed. The missile landed in a house in Chandigarh city, killing 3 people and injuring 2 others.”

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the visuals and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that these claims are false and self-invented.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a relevant keyword search and found report and official sources regarding the missile test in Odisha. According to the official sources, the Defense Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy conducted the successful flight test of the indigenously-developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha at about 1200 hrs on March 26, 2025

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the claims made by propagandists were false and fabricated.

Intent

Propagandists are circulating false and self-invented claims about the VLSRSAM successful test to set their narrative against India.
