A concerning video is being shared on social media, showing a group of individuals either deceased or injured on the road. Some users, influencers, and propagandists have been misleadingly circulating the video, claiming that it is evidence of a targeted crime against Hindus in Bangladesh. However, the reality is that the video actually depicts a tragic incident that took place during the Rath Yatra festival on July 7, 2024, in Bogura, Bangladesh.
The video shared with misleading claims
Several users, influencers and propagandists have shared the sensitive video and made false communal claims.
Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler, propagandist and self-proclaimed OSINT account @RealBababanaras wrote. Reportedly Bangladeshi Army attacked Hindu protesters while they were protesting against radical Islamists for raping & Killing Hindus in Bangladesh. Dozens of people were injured including children and women.
Another propaganda account Deepak Sharma (@SonOfBharat7) has also shared the video and wrote. Jihadis bomb a Hindu camp in Bangladesh, killing hundreds of women. The camp on which the bomb was thrown was a camp only for women and children. I have always said that Jamaat-e-Islam is an army of eunuchs that kills women. The truth about the viral video, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the disturbing visuals and claims came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was unrelated to the religious violence against minority communities in Bangladesh.
To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google. This led us to several media reports containing the same visuals. According to the media reports(1, 2), On July 7, 2024, a tragic incident occurred during the Rath Yatra in Bogra, Bangladesh, when at least five people died from electrocution and around 50 were hospitalized.
The incident took place in the Sheujgari area of Bogra during the Ratha Yatra festival. During the celebrations, a severe electrocution accident occurred, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to approximately 50 others. This incident is entirely unrelated to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. And should not be misinterpreted as part of the current conflicts or tensions in the country.
Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video depicting dead and injured people is not related to the violence against Hindus. But it is from a tragic incident that occurred during the Rath Yatra celebration on July 7, 2024.
