Fact Check: An old video of Israeli strikes destroying a mosque in Lebanon circulated as a recent incident

A video showing the bombing and destruction of a religious structure is being circulated with the claim that the Israeli Air Force targeted terrorist positions in Lebanon after Hezbollah launched at least three rockets toward Israeli territory. In reality, this video is not recent; it actually dates back to an incident from October 2024. However, according to reports, the IDF is currently targeting terrorist positions in Lebanon following multiple rocket attacks by Hezbollah.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @RealBababanaras wrote, “BREAKING: Israel Air Force targeted terrorist positions inside Lebanon after Hezbollah fired at least 3 rockets towards Israeli territory.”

Another account, @SeniorSailorIN, also disseminated the video and wrote, “BREAKING: Israel Air Force targeted terrorist positions inside #Lebanon after Hezbollah fired at least 3 rockets towards Israeli territory.”

The truth about the video shared as Israeli forces destroyed a mosque, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not recent but an old video from October 2024.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some keyframes from the video using Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the same visuals. According to the reports (1, 2), this video dates back to an incident from October 2024. Israeli forces have blown up a mosque in the southern Lebanese village of Yaroun. However, according to reports, the IDF is currently targeting terrorist positions in Lebanon following multiple rocket attacks by Hezbollah (Hezbollah denied any attack).

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was old and unrelated to the recent developments in the region.
