Fact Check: Misleading Claim About Dog Allegedly Killed in Gaza

A disturbing image showing a brutally killed dog lying on the floor is being shared online with the claim that it depicts a dog killed by Israeli forces in Gaza amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. However, our investigation found that the image is not from Gaza.

A propaganda account, @ShaykhSulaiman, posted the image with the caption:

“This is what they do to Dogs in Gaza.”

Truth; Image Dates Back to 2023 Attack by Hamas

As this post gained traction, it drew our attention. The D Intent Data Team started the investigation immediately. Using reverse image search and keyword analysis, we discovered that this image has been online since October 2023, well before the current wave of violence.
The same image was posted by @NoaMagid in October 2023, with the caption:
“They even slaughtered dogs. Do you support this? #Hamas_is_ISIS.”

Sources from that time report that Hamas militants allegedly killed the dog during a brutal attack on Israeli civilians, not the other way around. The image also appeared on discussion forums such as nairaland.com, further confirming that it predates the current Gaza conflict.

There is no credible evidence that the image was taken in Gaza or that it involves Israeli forces. It is being recycled with a false claim to provoke outrage and mislead audiences.

Intent:

Propagandist accounts are circulating old, unrelated images with false context to push a misleading narrative and stir emotions around the Israel-Palestine conflict.
